Infinite Herbs LLC voluntarily recalled one lot of their "2.5-ounce packages of Infinite Herbs fresh organic basil" on April 18th. According to the United States Food & Drug Administration, the products that fall under the affected lot number "have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella."

Per the CDC, roughly "1.35 million infections, 26,500 hospitalizations, and 420 (salmonella-related) deaths" occur each year in the United States alone. Salmonella is a type of bacteria that causes exposed individuals to experience a plethora of symptoms including but not limited to diarrhea, fever, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. Serious, fatal infections can occur among individuals with compromised immune systems, the elderly, and children. Salmonella bacteria can even cause arthritis and arterial aneurysms.

The recalled products were sold between February 1st and April 6th, 2024 and have already been pulled from grocery store shelves. The FDA is encouraging anyone who purchased a 2.5-ounce package of Infinite Herbs fresh organic basil between the aforementioned dates with UPC code 18042 02147 7 to throw the product away immediately and avoid consumption.

The product was sold at Trader Joe's stores across Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Pennsylvania, and Virginia, and at a few Fruit Center Marketplace stores in Massachusetts. Concerned individuals are encouraged to call Infinite Herbs LLC at 305-599-9255 x148 with questions.
