World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler won the 153rd Open Championship at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland, his third leg of the Grand Slam following two previous Masters Tournament victories and his PGA Championship win earlier this year.
Scheffler, 29, finished at 17-under, shooting at 68 during the final round on Sunday (July 20), finishing four strokes ahead of Harris English, who ended the tournament at 13-under. The now-four-time major champion entered the final round with a decisive solo lead after shooting 14-under through his first three rounds.
Scheffler shot a 68 in round one, a 64 in round two and a 67 in round three during the Open Champion at Royal Portrush, the first time he's shot in the 60s for an entire tournament and became the first Open champion to do so. The former University of Texas standout is now only one leg shy of completing the career Grand Slam, with the U.S. Open as the only remaining tournament alluding his already historic career.
Last week, Scheffler gave a surprising take on his success ahead of the Open championship, claiming he doesn't find true fulfillment in winning.
"This is not a fulfilling life," Scheffler said during a press conference at Royal Portrush on Tuesday (July 15) via ESPN. "It's fulfilling from the sense of accomplishment, but it's not fulfilling from a sense of the deepest places of your heart."
