Free agent closer Edwin Diaz has reportedly reached an agreement on a three-year, $69 million deal with the back-to-back World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers, sources with knowledge of the situation confirmed to ESPN's Jeff Passan and Jorge Castillo on Tuesday (December 9).

"Closer Edwin Díaz's deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers is for three years and $69 million, sources tell ESPN. The Dodgers, who were targeting bullpen help this winter, got the best closer on the market, setting a new AAV record for relievers," Passan wrote on his X account.

Diaz was selected as an All-Star and the Reliever of the Year award winner for the third time in his MLB career in 2025, recording a 1.63 ERA and converting 28 of 31 save opportunities for the New York Mets. The Puerto Rican native has a 28-36 career record with a 2.82 ERA, 839 strikeouts and 253 saves in eight MLB seasons, having missed the entire 2023 season due to a knee injury.

The Dodgers are months removed from winning their second consecutive World Series, but their bullpen was their top concern entering the offseason with relievers combining for a 4.27 ERA and 27 blown saves, which was the seventh-most among MLB teams.

"Getting a high-leverage reliever is never a bad thing," said manager Dave Roberts during the MLB winter meetings in Orlando, Florida, on Monday (December 8) via ESPN.
