Here's what's trending for August 25.

There's a boil water advisory in effect in the area of Hellertown Park. A water main break happened around 1 o'clock Sunday afternoon and now officials recommend water customers in that area boil their water for about three minutes and let it cool before using it. That includes drinking it, making ice, brushing teeth or food preparation.

Students in one local school district are getting an unexpected extended summer break. Due to a water main break in Phillipsburg, the Phillipsburg School District has cancelled all classes in all of its schools today.

One woman is in the hospital after a serious crash on the Turnpike. A dump truck and a van collided in the southbound lanes of I-476 in Washington Township just after midnight Monday. Police say the driver of the van had to be pulled from her vehicle before being brought to the hospital. Her condition is unknown at this time. The crash is under investigation.

It's the first day of school in the Allentown School District. Students at three elementary schools will start classes just days after mold was found in their buildings. Mold spores were discovered last Friday in four classrooms at Sheridan and Ritter elementary schools and in a modular classroom at Muhlenberg Elementary. The district said those campuses now have air purifiers in each room, and additional testing over the weekend ensured the air quality is acceptable for students. Students in the Bethlehem Area School District also begin classes today, while the entire student body in the Easton Area School District won't have to report until tomorrow.

Pennsylvania recorded the most power outages last year in decades. The Pennsylvania Utility Commission said there were 71 reportable outage events in 2024, the most in over 30 years. The PUC said the outages were caused by severe weather, vegetation-related damage, and the wear and tear of an aging power grid, but also noted most distributors struggled to meet benchmarks for reliability. The commission said only three of its eleven electric distribution companies have consistently met standard performance metrics over the last three years.

Among those at the final day of the Little League World Series was Gov. Josh Shapiro, who said he wouldn't have missed it. "It's amazing to be back. It's such an iconic event here in Pennsylvania. To see these young people competing and having so much fun and to see the community come out and cheer them on, it's amazing," Shapiro says. Shapiro says the economic impact in the Williamsport region will end up being about $40 million.

Former New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez has written a judge from prison and asked for leniency when his wife is sentenced next month. Menendez is serving an eleven-year sentence for his conviction on federal bribery charges at a federal facility in Pennsylvania. In an effort to walk back his defense strategy when he blamed his wife, Nadine, for her role in his bribery conspiracy, Menendez says it was wrong for his attorney to suggest she was money-hungry when she solicited others for help.

Hurricane Erin has passed on after pounding the coast last week but not before it took away a beloved Jersey Shore landmark. Erin took with it a steel mast that was sticking out of the ground at Barnegat Bay on Long Beach Island. The mast was the only reminder of what was left of the vessel Sea king. In 1953, the trawler was hauling a minesweeper to Atlantic City for retrofitting when it became stranded ln the Barnegat Shoals. The minesweeper was later re-floated and saved but the Sea King could not be saved and became buried in the sand near 12th Street. The mast became a landmark for residents and a favorite of history buffs.

After hitting a rough stretch, Phillies pitcher Ranger Suarez tied a career high in his last start with ten strikeouts. Sunday, Suarez eclipsed that with 11 strikeouts in a 3-2 win over Washington. Manager Rob Thomson discusses what has changed. "The velocity has jumped up a little bit, but so has the command and that's really the thing for him. If he can get the ball to his glove-side, he's really effective. Everything else plays off of that and that's what he's doing right now," Thomson says. Suarez pitched seven shutout innings in the win.

A former division rival is now in Eagles green. ESPN reports the Birds have traded a fifth-round draft pick to the Minnesota Vikings for quarterback Sam Howell and a sixth-rounder. Howell spent his first two seasons with the Washington Commanders before being traded last year. He will compete with Tanner McKee to serve as the primary backup to Eagles QB Jalen Hurts.
